About the Artist

Margaret Furlong Designs began twenty years ago in a small Midwestern studio.  After earning her Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Nebraska, Margaret Furlong opened a modest art studio in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Drawing on her background in painting, pottery, and sculpture, she sought to use her creative talents to celebrate God and the beauties of nature.

While working on a set of dishes with a shell motif, Margaret Furlong studied her drawings and castings of shell images that were scattered about her studio. Moved by the incredible simplicity and beauty of this elegant natural form, she began combining several shell forms - adding a molded face, a textured coil, and a tapered trumpet.  The result was her very first shell angel ornament which was introduced in 1980.

Margaret Furlong then launched a series of white-on-white angel ornaments based on the shell form.  She chose white bisque porcelain as the medium because it highlighted the subtleties of form, pattern, and rich texture so characteristic of her designs.

In 1982, Margaret Furlong moved her company to Salem, Oregon where her company, Margaret Furlong Designs, is currently located. Today, her collection features many unique offerings that successfully blend symbols of heaven and earth. Her beautifully designed creations are suitable for year-round use and reflect the things she values the most: God, nature, family, and friendship. Margaret Furlong products have become much sought after collectibles and are distributed throughout the United States as well as abroad.

Margaret Furlong Designs are made entirely by hand.
